Khasra Khatauni Will Be Available For Farmers on Demand For Free in Tehsils

May 2023: As part of the public service campaign launched by the Chief Minister for the convenience of the farmers. Based on the instructions shared by the Collector Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi and Sailana SDM Manish Jain, the farmers can now get Khasra Khatauni, copies of the map, a free current account on demand at the Tehsil office. The people in the tehsil office are bound to share the information asked for. The policy will be implemented in three tehsils as of now in Madhya Pradesh, i.e. Sailana, Rawati, and Bajna. In order to get the documents, one has to share the Khasra Number, Name or Name of the village, and immediately the record can be fetched by the employee in the tehsil. They will then fill the forms for the people seeking information and present the copies to the tehsildar for the final stamp.

What is the difference between Khasra and Khatauni numbers?

In most cases, people confuse the Khasra number with the Khatauni number. However, they both are different. Even though sometimes they are used together as Khasra Khatauni. It is important to note that Khasra and Khatauni cannot be used interchangeably. The Khasra is the number allocated to the land unit, whereas Khatauni is the number allocated to the agricultural land owners.

Another difference between the Khasra and Khatauni is that Khasra is the record of one single unit of land. However, Khatauni can include records of multiple units.

The third difference between Khasra and Khatauni is that the record for Khatauni is created through Form B-I and has 23 columns. The Khasra number record is created through Form P-II and has around 12 columns.

Who Prepares the Khasra Khatauni Records?

Village authorities assign Khasra numbers to plots. The number represents the landlords’ ownership rights. Before giving the Khasra number, the village lekhpal checks the Sharja document, i.e. a map that covers the complete village area. After that, the lekhpal assigns a Khasra number to each land plot and Khata numbers to the landlords. Once assigned, another official, known as a Patwari, is appointed to maintain the Khasra Khatauni records.

If any piece of land or plot is divided or gifted, it is Patwari’s responsibility to update the land records of the same. For example, if a land’s Khasra number is 18, it is later divided into two parts. Patwari will update the land records as 18/1 and 18/2.

The Patwari will also update the Khata number in the new owner's name if a piece of land is sold or has joint ownership.
